English 1, 2, Honors: Sharpening the ax

Today, students responded to journal 30:

“If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend six hours sharpening my ax.” –Abraham Lincoln; Why do you think Lincoln said this?  What does it mean?  How might it apply to your life?  Explain.

Then, students read independently.  If you were absent (or in ISS), be sure to read for at least 20 minutes and submit a half-page summary of your reading for credit.
